INFORMED CONSENT (IMPORTANT)
The mission of school counseling programs is to promote and enhance the learning process for all students. In order to build trust and rapport with the student, school counselors keep student information confidential, with some exceptions. When appropriate, school counselors will share information with school personnel on a need-to-know basis, always approaching this breach in confidentiality from the standpoint of what is best for the student.
School counselors do NOT share discussions of gender identity or sexuality with parents. School counselors are REQUIRED BY LAW to share information under the following circumstances:
Student is in danger of hurting themselves or others
Previously unreported instances of sexual or physical abuse of a minor or elder.
Threats to school security.
When counseling records are subpoenaed by the Court.
*Please note, email, phone calls, and video conferences are not fully secure means of communication and pose potential risks to confidentiality.
